My name is Adam Ficek and I have been involved in the music industry for 25 years as a performing artist and DJ. I have toured the world extensively at top level as part of the band Babyshambles, as a solo artist and as a DJ. From my own therapeutic experience within the music industry and witnessing the struggles (and consequences) of many of my peers, I decided to train as an integrative psychotherapist at the Metanoia Institute in London. From my unique position as a continuing professional musician and a psychotherapist I am now finalising a PhD proposal which will research the relationship between mental illness and the music industry. The study will focus on the impact of being a professional musician and the ways in which the environment can support, moderate or exasperate psychological struggles. Additional to this I hold an undergraduate music degree and post graduate teaching degree in music from Middlesex University, a post graduate clinical diploma in integrative psychotherapeutic counselling and a masters degree from the London College of Music.
